Practical steps you can take to look after your wellbeing

Self-Help Resources

These resources give students a useful first step when they want practical ideas they can try themselves. They should sit alongside DMS support, not replace it.

Sometimes a few practical steps can help you feel more in control. These short guides cover common things students deal with, from stress and sleep to motivation and loneliness. Use what feels useful to you, and contact Student Support if you would rather talk things through.

Students supporting one another

Supporting a friend

You do not need to be an expert to support someone who is having a difficult time. Listening, taking them seriously and helping them reach the right support can make a difference.

  • Choose a private moment and say what you have noticed.
  • Listen without trying to solve everything straight away.
  • Ask what would be helpful and encourage them to contact Student Support.
  • Do not promise to keep something secret if you believe they are in immediate danger.
  • Look after yourself too. You can ask DMS for advice if supporting someone is becoming difficult.
Contact Student Support
