Loneliness

You can feel lonely even when you are around other people. Building connections often happens through repeated small contact rather than one big social effort.

Things you can try

  • Stay a few minutes after class and speak to one person.
  • Join a study group or regular activity where you are likely to see the same people again.
  • Keep in touch with people you trust outside DMS.
  • If you commute, consider staying a little longer for a study session or activity.
  • Tell your tutor or Student Support if loneliness is affecting your attendance or motivation.

When to ask for more help

If loneliness is affecting your mental health or you have felt isolated for a long time, reach out for support.
